The state of current rock music is thriving throughout the world and the tremors can be felt everywhere. Brain Graffiti is looking to tell the stories of bands and musicians who constantly create emotional change in the masses.
For each issue, we talk to a multitude of bands varying around the Midwest and beyond
Brain Graffiti is printed 8.5 x 11 inches, giving the effect of a professional magazine. The layout and design in the zine are completely made by hand, using beautifully made collages from old magazine clippings and photos from DIY gigs.
Taking creative inspiration from older zines such as Sniffin' Glue and My Rules, the stories are told through journalistic interviews, typed out, and plastered thoroughly on top of the collages.
Along with the zine, we have also become show promoters, using the Brain Graffiti name as a driver.
While we started booking gigs in Chicago and the suburbs, we have branched out to putting shows together in Champaign-Urbana, Peoria, Milwaukee, Madison and Indianapolis.
Our goal is to put on gigs all across the country, spreading the word about our zine while being able to connect with new people, bands and scenes.
Brain Graffiti was birthed from the energy and excitement of the Chicago/suburban music scene, whether it be from a basement DIY show or an orchestrated concert at an established venue.
Taking influences from late 70s/early 80s punk zines and straying away from the overconsumption of digitla media, Brain Graffiti is a DIY music zine that sets out to tell the stories of the people behind the music, told through the paradigm of the songwriters and musical ensembles.
The carefully constructed pages, made up of eclectic collages and photos from shows, are littered with memoirs, essays, and personal stories from musicians/bands.
The interviews will take you behind the scenes of the bands you see live and give you an insight in to the beautifully artistic minds of the musicians.
You can feel the radiation of energy through the pages, smell the sweat, beer, and pot through the photos, hear the cacophony of swirling, blissful noise through the collages, and feel inspired to do something through the words.
Not found on online anywhere; only physical, the way it should be.
